CCISD Hires New Campus Leaders

LEAGUE CITY, Texas—The Clear Creek Independent School District Board of Trustees announced several new hires and promotions during the April board meeting. In addition to two new principals and several assistant principals, the board appointed a new Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education.

Alex Torrez, currently the principal of Marble Falls High School in Marble Falls, is stepping in to be the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. Torrez earned his master’s in education from Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and his bachelor of science in Secondary Education from Lubbock Christian University. He has 18 years of service in public education. Torrez said it is his goal to make Clear Creek ISD the first exemplary large school district in the state of Texas.

Erin Hart has been appointed principal of James F. Bay Elementary in Seabrook. Hart will be taking over for Nancy House, who is retiring this year. Currently Hart is the principal of Jamison Middle School in Pearland. Hart earned her bachelor of science from Castleton State in Castleton, Vermont. She has 15 years of service in public education.

Laurie O’Neill has been appointed principal of North PointeElementary in Houston. O’Neill is currently the assistant principal of North Pointe and is replacing Principal Joe Wiseman who is retiring this year. O’Neill has eight years experience in public education and earned her master’s degree in education from Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas and her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

CLHS Cheerleaders Give a Yell in NYC

CCISD - CLHS Cheerleaders pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—The very spirited Clear Lake High School Cheerleaders competed in New York City at the NCA Big Apple Classic US Championship in March. In addition to winning their division, they earned the innovative choreography award — they also won the Grand Champion title for the entire competition. As an extra treat, they were featured on the CBS Early Morning show during the weather report.

CCHS Golf Students Visit Shriners Hospital

CCISD - Golf Team Visits Children in Hospital pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—The Clear Creek High School golf team recently visited the Shriners Hospital for Children. The students learned that the hospital specializes in treating children with significant acute burn injuries and reconstructive or restorative surgery as a result of healed burn injuries.

Space Center Students Study Titanic

CCISD - SCI studies Titanic pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—Students in Shannon Miller's sixth grade English class at Space Center Intermediate recognized the 93rd anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, a ship that prior to its maiden voyage had been dubbed "unsinkable."

CCISD High School Robonauts Dominate FIRST Competition

Lone Star Regional Tournament Winners pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—The Clear Creek Independent School District high school robotics team the Robonauts, competing with their robot Chainzilla, returned from the FIRST Lone Star Regional Tournament as the Regional Chairman’s Award winner, Regional Champion and General Motors Industrial Design Award winner. The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics team is made up of students from Clear Brook, Clear Creek and Clear Lake High Schools.

High School Robot Designers Keep Their Eye on the Botball

CCISD - Texas Botball Robotics Tournament Winners pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—Clear Creek Independent School District has recently had two students compete in the Texas Botball Robotics tournament held at the University of Houston, placing second in the robot task competition and taking the overall second place tournament trophy, which recognizes efforts in design, programming robot performance and online journal and documentation.

Clear View Students Earn Big Dollars

CCISD - Dollars from federal financial aid program pictureLEAGUE CITY, Texas—Clear View Education Center Class of 2005 earned more than $86,000 in scholarships. Clear View has 54 students who will be graduation at 7 p.m., May 26 at Webster Intermediate School.

Each graduation ceremony will also be broadcast in real time in the Clear Creek High School auditorium and over the CCISD web site at ccisd.net .

In case of rain, each school's graduation will be held in the Carlisle Field House adjacent to District Stadium and will be divided into two sessions.

Changes in ceremony time and location due to rain will be placed on the CCISD web site or can be obtained by calling the Communication Hotline at (281)338-5980.
