The Rose Helps Fight Breast Cancer and Osteoporosis

Houston, TEXAS -- According to the Rose, their services include mammography, ultrasound, biopsies, bone density testing and access to treatment and support.

The Rose is a non-profit organization which began in 1986 as a grassroots effort. Community support continues to be an important part of its history and the day-to-day operation. Since opening its first facility, The Rose has grown to accommodate the needs of the community with one mission -- to reduce deaths from breast cancer by providing mammography screening, diagnosis and access to treatment to all women regardless of their ability to pay. Support from the community is important to the success of The Rose Capital Campaign, and as in the past, the community is encouraged to be part of the exciting future of The Rose.

The Rose has made every effort to eliminate barriers and provide early access to essential resources to the underserved, low-income, uninsured women in the Greater Houston Area. In the current fiscal year which runs from August 1, 2003 to July 31, 2004

• about 35,000 women received screens, diagnostics, or another type of health care service. quality breast healthcare services;
• 10,00 received breast care education and information
• and more than 5600 received needed services at no charge through The Rose Sponsorship Program.

Support includes help in finding affordable treatment. Last year, The Rose's physician network donated almost $1 million in services.

The Rose depends on revenue from paying customers, grants and fundraisers such as The Rose shrimp boil for its funding
