Tom Delay surprises pollsters

Primary results

In the District 22 race for the U.S. House, Rep. Tom Delay, R., surprised pollsters by garnering 70 percent of the vote. His closest opponent, Tom Campbell, received 30 percent. Delay will square off with Nick Lampson, D., in the November election.

In the District 14 U.S. House race, incumbent Ron Paul, R., received 78 percent of the vote. He will be facing Shane Skyler, D., in the general election.

In the race for the U.S. Senate, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R., was unopposed. In the Democratic contest for U.S. Senate, Gene Kelly with 43 percent of the votes and Barbara Ann Radnofsky with 38 percent will battle it out one more time in the April runoffs.

In the gubernatorial race, incumbent Rick Perry, R., won 84 percent of the Republican vote and will be facing Chris Bell, D., who received 64 percent of the Democratic vote. Independents Comptroller Carole Keeton Strayhorn and "Kinky" Friedman also plan to vie for the governor's post. Strayhorn and Friedman hope to gather the required number of signatures between the primary election and May 11.

In the race for Lieutenant Governor, incumbent David Dewhurst received 78 percent of the Republican vote. Maria Luisa Alvarado, D., and Adrian De Leon, D., will duke it out in the April Democratic primaries.

Atty. Gen. Greg Abbott, R., incumbent, was unopposed and will face David Van Os, D., also unopposed.
