League City Area NewsHurricane Katrina Relief Effort In League CityBy Marilyn Clark, League City Area News Online September 3, 2005 LEAGUE CITY—The City of League City is working with InterFaith Caring Ministries to meet the needs of the Hurricane Katrina victims who have evacuated to League City. The most effective method of assistance is to identify a central donation center. Therefore, donations are being accepted through Interfaith Caring Ministries at the following locations:Donation Information - Interfaith Caring MinistriesAll donations of food and money will be accepted at InterFaith Caring Ministries located at 631 FM 270. Their telephone number is 281-332-3881. They can accept perishable food for the next two weeks. If writing a check for money donations, please make it payable to Interfaith Caring Ministries. Money will be used specifically for Hurrricane Katrina relief efforts. Clothing is no longer needed at this time due to an outstanding community response. InterFaith Caring Ministries covers the area that includes all of the Clear Creek Independent School District. Shelter InformationThe American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Galveston County at: Moody Methodist Church For updates on shelter locations contact the American Red Cross at 1-409-945-7200. Social Security PaymentsAnyone receiving Social Security payments that have been interrupted by Hurricane Katrina can go to any Social Security office to get an emergency payment. All Social Security checks scheduled for delivery to residents in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina will be printed and shipped from the U.S. Treasury to the United States postal Service for delivery as usual. The Postal Service implements emergency procedures for delivery of checks when a natural disaster occurs. Social Security is working with the Louisiana governor’s office to identify locations for temporary mail delivery. All direct deposits will be made on schedule. Any Social Security field office can make payments in critical cases. For information about changing mailing addresses, direct deposit, or locating the nearest social Security office, call 1-800-772-1213 or go online at www.socialsecurity.gov Following are important numbers:
