Religion: A Pastor Ponders

Expectations

by Pastor William Jenkins

January 28, 2005

League City News - League City Methodist Church Picture White with red lettering, the sticker had been placed waist high on the door that led in and out of the Fellowship Hall. It had been bright and shiny when first placed there by some dreamer in the church. Over the years it had become worn and faded. For ten months I wondered about it. Who put it there? When was it put there? What inspired the placing of it? Does anyone see it anymore?

In the beginning it must have brought a spark of hope in the hearts of those who saw it. It seemed to me no one ever noticed it anymore as they brushed through the door, coming and going, forgetting or ignoring the vision that once captivated that church family. Time tends to have the forgetful effect on us.

The sticker in question had three red-letter words on it: EXPECT A MIRACLE! It was an invitation and an inspiration to the life of faith. It was a challenge to the walk of faith.

It was a reminder to raise the level of expectations and a testimony to the possibilities that exist whenever expectations and God’s resources come together. Nobody noticed it anymore. Time tends to have the forgetful effect on us.

Life is lived at the level of our expectations. We make investments of time and energy, money and skill with certain expectations in mind. The greatest enemy of your fondest expectations is forgetfulness.

They often take too long or require too much from us, so we put them off and eventually forget. What are your expectations for yourself, your family, your career? What you are expecting is most often what you get.

Look up! Expect a miracle! Do not allow the dulling effect of time and procrastination deprive you of your dreams.

God is in the business of making miracles happen whenever there is an attitude of expectancy.

Ponder this.
