Religion: A Pastor Ponders

Harvesting A Life

by Pastor William Jenkins

March 8, 2005

League City News - League City Methodist Church Picture Is your life turning out the way you want it to? If it is not, the most important factor in the results is your own input. Read Galatians 6:1-10 and you will discover that you are in control of your own destiny.

These verses express and unalterable law operating in Gods creation; it is the Law of Identical Harvest. Galatians 6 makes farmers out of us all when it says: “What you sow is what you reap.”

Sow a thought, reap an act.
Sow an act, reap a habit.
Sow a habit, reap a character.
Sow a character, reap a destiny.

Preaching on the death of Abraham Lincoln, Phillips Brooks said, “He lived as he lived and he died as he died, because he was who he was.”

If you sow the seeds of reverence and worship, of truth and honesty, of integrity, determination, and hard work you will reap an honorable destiny. Sow the seeds of righteous living and you life will be rewarded and blessed in kind. In this way you control your own destiny.

The Law of Identical Harvest is expressed beautifully in a poem by Madeline Bridges.

“There are loyal hearts, there are spirits brave,
There are souls that are pure and true;
Then give to the world the best you have
And the best will come back to you.
Give love, and love to your heart will flow,
And strength in your utmost need;
Have faith, and a score of hearts will show
Their faith in your word and deed.
For life is the mirror of king and slave,
‘Tis just what you are and do;
Then give to the world the best you have,
And the best will come back to you.”

The Bible uses fewer words to say essentially the same thing:

“Whatever you sow, you shall also reap.”

Ponder the Law of Identical Harvest as you live your life this week.

Thanks for listening.
