Photo By Marilyn Clark, League City Area News Online Defined as the beginning of the Christian year, Advent is upon us! “The word ‘Advent’ means ‘coming’ or ‘arrival’ says League City United Methodist Church’s Senior Pastor, Rev. William Jenkins. “The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus the Christ in his First Advent, and the anticipation of the return of Christ in his Second Advent”. Jenkins goes on to explain that Advent also symbolizes the spiritual journey of both the individual and a congregation. League City Methodist has lots to offer during Advent season, in both its traditional worship services and in its contemporary mosaic service. In addition, each Sunday of Advent at 5 p.m., LCUMC has a special feature, open to everyone. The Hanging of the Greens Service is on November 27th , December 4th is the Family Advent Festival, and December 11th brings “Celebrate the Season: A Christmas Cantata”, presented by the Sanctuary Choir and followed by a Christmas sing-a-long, cookies and punch. A church-wide Christmas caroling with refreshments at the senior parsonage is scheduled for December 18th. Christmas Eve services include a 5 p.m. children’s service, a 6:30 p.m. traditional service, and an 8:30 p.m. mosaic contemporary service. Christmas carols, Communion and candles will be featured in all the services. On Christmas Day, League City United Methodist Church will offer a blended service, with the message of “Morning Has Broken” presented by Rev. Jenkins. The United Methodist Church believes in “Open Communion”, which means that everyone is invited to participate in Holy Communion, no matter what their faith may be. League City United Methodist Church is located at 1411 Main Street (FM 518), one block east of Interstate 45. For information on the Advent schedule, contact the church offices at 281-332-1557 or visit the website at www.lcumc.org. Picture update: December 24, 2005 HYPERLINK - http://www.lcumc.org |
