Religion: A Pastor Ponders
Methodist Church Offers Advanced Directives Seminar
May 8, 2005
Pros and cons about the recent Terri Schiavo case have swamped the news media,
grabbing national attention and forcing many individuals to consider their stance
on quality of life. In its continuing effort to meet the needs of the community,
League City United Methodist Church will be hosting an Advanced Directives Seminar
on Sunday May 22nd.
An Advanced Directive provides information about what kind of care you would
like to have if you become unable to make medical decisions. Living Wills, Durable
Power of Attorney and Do Not Resuscitate Orders are all advanced directives. All
adults over the age of 18 should consider completing the necessary forms to ensure
that their wishes are known in case they cannot communicate themselves,
asserts Associate Pastor Rosemary Dubois. Having taken care of these matters
will help prevent those persons close to you from needless agony in making life
and death decisions without your guidance.
The Advanced Directives Seminar will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will be facilitated
Rev. Jerry Procell, who has served as Senior Chaplain to the Memorial Hermann
Healthcare System for almost seven years. He is an ordained minister, a certified
Christian Counselor and a Board Certified Chaplain.
For information on the seminar, contact the church offices at 281-332-1557
