Interfaith Caring Ministries receives Grant from Jewish Federation of Greater Houston

By Interfaith Caring Ministries

January 28, 2006

On January 10, in a very prestigious ceremony, attended by Former Texas Governor Mark White, and Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, Interfaith Caring Ministries (ICM) was presented a check for $13,651 from the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston. The amount received by ICM was a portion of the $2.2 million in hurricane relief grants that was awarded to nearly 3 dozen community agencies located in and around the Harris County area.

Approximately $1.6 million of the $2.2 million dollars distributed will go to agencies providing services to the general public – this marks the largest allocation of funds by the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston to non-Jewish community agencies in the Federation’s history. The funding for these grants was raised by the Jewish community of Greater Houston, along with Jewish communities across North America and around the world who raised more than $24 million to provide assistance to victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

These grants will be used to help provide food and other essential services to help hurricane victims to become self sufficient. ICM has assisted over 1400 Katrina and Rita hurricane families (representing over 3600 individuals) with food and financial assistance.

Interfaith Caring Ministries normal service area includes individuals living within the Clear Creek Independent School District boundary which is in both Harris and Galveston Counties. Annually, ICM helps over 3000 families in crisis. ICM is celebrating 21 years of service to the Clear Lake community and is honored to receive these funds from the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston.
