By League City Police Department

March 29, 2005

In March 2005, the League City Police Department D.A.R.E program will be presenting Retro Bill, the “Official D.A.R.E Safety Buddy” as a keynote speaker at all League City elementary and intermediate schools.

Police Beat: RetroBill imageDuring the "live show" Retro Bill utilizes a variety of colorful props to drive home his uplifting messages of safety, self-esteem and character counts topics! The 1950s-styled, pompadour-haired powerhouse Retro Bill also encourages children (and adults too) to maintain a positive attitude, exercise and eat right (which includes drinking LOTS of water)! Retro Bill also encourages kids to do their homework and to participate in "positive alternatives" to bad things... like playing sports, being in a school play, or learning to play a musical instrument. Retro Bill's motto to children and parents is “What goes around comes around!”

Retro Bill is a "blast from the past" created and performed by Hollywood-based writer, director, producer and actor Bill Russ. Russ wrote, produced, directed and stars as his alter-ego Retro Bill in the Award-Winning “DARE Safety Tips Video starring Retro Bill.” The video, which was produced by Bill Russ Productions, Inc. at a cost in excess of $250,000.00, was donated to the nation’s D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program in the fall of 2001. The video features 20 of the most essential safety tips for children and is currently being used by 40,000 D.A.R.E. Police Officers and School Resource Officers in more than 350,000 schools annually throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and South America!

The video has been touted by leading experts in children's safety as the "Best safety video ever produced for children!" Retro Bill has been praised by Hollywood celebrities and government dignitaries such as Jay Leno of the “Tonight Show”, Larry King of CNN, Kate Capshaw-Spielberg, Leeza Gibbons, talk show host and Asa Hutchinson, Under Secretary of Homeland Security.

Retro Bill will be visiting students of League City elementary and intermediate schools during the week of March 28th to April 1st. In addition to the school visitations, Retro Bill will be speaking during a special D.A.R.E Family Night at the League City Civic Center on Wednesday March 30th at 7:00pm. D.A.R.E Family Night is free and open to the citizens of League City.
