GovernmentAttorney General Abbott's Fugitive Unit Tracks Down Child Predators Out Of State, Out Of The CountryBy Greg Abbott, Attorney General of Texas February 8, 2005Orson Keith Lane was arrested on Monday in Juarez, Mexico, for an outstanding parole violation warrant related to his 1996 Lamar County conviction of indecent sexual contact with an eight-year-old girl. He also had an outstanding warrant out of Lamar County for failing to register as a sex offender. Fugitive Unit investigators cooperated with the tirelessly to get them off the streets again.”
Attorney General Abbott formed the Fugitive Unit in August 2003 after discovering that almost 200 convicted child sex offenders could not be located. The Fugitive Unit works with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and other law enforcement agencies in locating and arresting fugitives who have been convicted of child sex crimes and violated their parole.
Fugitive Unit investigators located Hernandez after matching his fingerprints with tfled from Lamar County to El Paso, OAG investigators worked with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office to establish a possible location for Lane in Juarez, Mexico. El Paso authorities then coordinated with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and Mexican officials to arrest him. Lane, who had been on parole as part of a 10-year sentence, is currently in the El Paso County Jail. Information from the November 17th article is given below.
